General cargo ship Morning Tide was hit by Houthis’ missile in the Red Sea

General cargo ship Morning Tide was attacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea in the night of February 5, 2024. The vessel was en route from Varna, Bulgaria to Singapore. The vessel was hit by a rocket shot from the rebels, although without major damage, and no one was injured.

From the ship’s AIS signal, it appears that Morning Tide vessel is Chinese-owned, a trick that has recently been used in an attempt to avoid the ship being attacked by the Houthis, who do not want to side with China. However, according to a spokesman for the Houthis, the ship is British-owned, which has now been confirmed.

Motor vessel Morning Tide (IMO: 9320506) has overall length of 143.00 meters and a beam of 19.00 meters, operating under the flag of Barbados. The ship has adeadweight of 12,008 DWT and a gross tonnage of 8,999 GRT.

At the same time, victim of the attack by the rebels was also the general cargo ship Star Nasia (IMO: 9361237) en route from Norfolk, Virginia, to Visakhapatnam.
